I have modified the hologram simple shader in the community folder.
Let me restate that:
I have modified the original import and I want to save it.
I replaced the world position nodes with vertex position nodes to gain access to the gameobject's local z axis.
The original is on the world Y axis.
This to me seems to be a really noob question about prefabs but the ASE tab shows the material has been altered and how do I save it? I have just started working with prefabs. I thought I had this understanding but maybe I am in need of direction to just save the modified shader. It seems like it should be intuitive but there is no nowhere to click to save the mod. I am just starting to play with nodes in the ASE.
I have years of experience writing scripts and this just throws me a little. What am I missing?
Thank you.

Found the solution. It is the indicator button in the upper left hand of the ASE frame. :D
